There are individuals that enter our lives for brief moments yet their energy, spirit and soul linger long after they've left our presence. Rehema Nsanyiwa is one of those phenomenal women. Her intoxicating energy creates a tidal wave of joy and love that washes clean everyone around her. We were honored to have her pop by the shop while she was in town collaborating with World Muse and promoting her work with Girl Be Project.
Rehema founded Girl Be Project in 2011 as an 18 year old woman who had years before lost both her parents to HIV/AIDS. Her mission was to "empower young women from deprived communities through the arts." The nonprofit initiative works with girls from 10 to 22 in Kampala (Uganda) in the Kansanga slum community to help build self esteem, create a safe place to share, create employment opportunities and promote entrepreneurship. "Girl Be Academy is a three month intensive residential creative program aimed at facilitating and equipping sexually abused young women with practical ability and awareness to enable them to gain mastery over their lives and help their community in return." To better understand the program, take a moment to listen to Rehema herself.
